Tutoring & Instruction: What to Expect
Before setting an appointment, we will seek to
understand what you need and what you expect from of the tutoring and
instruction. Then, we will arrange an appointment at a convenient
site. We can meet at your home, my home, a library, etc.
When we
meet, the tutor will ask the student questions about what material the class is
doing. The tutor will evaluate the student to see how best to help.
The tutor will use strategies to help the student learn, to help the student
think through the problems. The tutor will record a summary of each
session for later reference.
The tutor will not do the
student's homework or project. In many ways, a tutor is like a
coach. The tutor is a facilitator to help the student learn. The
student will not learn if someone else does the work.
The student must
come with class books, materials, assignments, and questions. The student
needs to be willing to try. Willingness to try is a
key learning any subject.
